Queen of Chesed – Play inspired by the life of Faigie Jacobson
Loosely based on the life of the dynamic and religious Faigie Jacobson-a Chasidic woman, wife of a rabbi and mother of 9 children who opened her home to the needy in her Crown Heights home. “Chesed” is a Hebrew word meaning “acts of loving kindness”. Homeless, hungry and lonely people come for a meal and would often stay indefinitely. While the play has fictitious and actual occurrences, it makes for interesting dramatic and comedic interactions not only between the Jacobson family but also between their “guests”.
