The Florence Watercolors Gallery was inspired by the hints of the 15th century hidden in the reflections in the rain puddles. It was the largest city in Europe, rich and economically successful. Starting with Cosino de’Medici and then in 1469 with Lorenzo de’Medici a great patron of the arts, commissioning works by Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and Botticelli. Lorenzo came to be known as”Lorenzo the Magnificent” (Lorenzo il Magnifico). Firenze (Florence) is where the Renaissance began and flourished.
Everything about Florence seems to be colored with a mild violet, like diluted wine.

“Among the four old bridges that span the river, the Ponte Vecchio, that bridge which is covered with the shops of jewelers and goldsmiths, is a most enchanting feature in the scene. The space of one house, in the center, being left open, the view beyond, is shown as in a frame; and that precious glimpse of sky, and water, and rich buildings, shining so quietly among the huddled roofs and gables on the bridge, is exquisite”.
-Charles Dickens, writer
